Accounting for a takeaway or delivery-only kitchen

Scored and compared prices dated

The short answer

QuickBooks Online is the sensible base for a single takeaway site, the same as most independents on this site. Where it falls short, and nothing here fully solves, is reconciling several delivery aggregator payouts, each already net of commission, against your own sales records without a manual spreadsheet in between.

What's different about buying this for takeaway / delivery-onlys

A dining room's accounting problem is mostly a daily sales journal. A delivery-only kitchen's version is harder in a specific way: DoorDash, Uber Eats and similar pay out net of commission on a schedule that does not match your own sales records, so reconciling what actually landed in the bank against what the kitchen actually sold takes real manual work.

QuickBooks Online handles the underlying books fine, at $38 to $140 a month depending on tier, but it does not natively untangle multiple aggregator payout schedules against gross sales; that gap gets filled with a spreadsheet or a bookkeeper who has done it before for another takeaway client.

It is worth naming honestly rather than pretending a piece of software here solves it cleanly: this is the one place on this site where the accounting tooling is genuinely behind the operational reality of running the business.

Questions people actually ask

01
Is there software that reconciles aggregator payouts automatically?
Some delivery-management and POS platforms include partial reconciliation reporting, but a fully automatic match against QuickBooks is not something we can point to confidently here. Most operators still do a manual check.
02
Should I track each delivery app as a separate revenue stream?
Yes, it makes the commission cost visible per channel rather than buried in one blended sales number, which is the more useful view when deciding where to push your own ordering page instead.
